What does “Sic Semper Hypocritae” mean?

2000-05-20 18:58:52 Technically, it means “Thus, always, to actors”. Thus what is left to your imagination, but it isn’t considered pleasant. In fact, however, some of our best friends are actors, and we would never wish any of them harm, even when they’re butchering our favorite play. Sometime in the past thousand years or so, the word “hypocrita” has changed in meaning from “actor” to “someone who acts contrary to how they expect other people to act”. “You’re a hypocrite!” no longer means that you did a really good job butchering Hamlet. It probably means you’re a politician or a news reporter. So please, don’t go killing any actors on our behalf.
