Victim of handgun killing dies, gunman remains at large.

2000-07-01 17:22:58 A Florida rapist was killed by a handgun yesterday in Miami. The victim, 21 year old George Shoney, lingered in an alley for three hours before he died. The gunman, 23-year old graduate student Marcia Luby, remains at large. The handgun is in police custody.

Prosecutors are considering hate crime charges. “There are reports that the gunman made some strongly anti-rapist comments following the shooting,” said city prosecutor Dale Locust, “and we are investigating the possibility that she shot Mr. Shoney solely because he was raping at the time.”

According to Locust, the city attorney’s office should announce in a few days if they will be prosecuting either Ms. Luby or the handgun.
